Powerful enough, but disappointing build quality., March 28, 2010 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Lenovo Ideapad U-550 15.6-Inch Black Laptop - Up to 6 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) (Personal Computers) I bought this laptop for my girlfriend. After a month of usage, she's very happy with it. The model we received was black, not brown as some were reporting. The laptop works great, battery life is around 4+ hours in high performance mode. The processor runs Windows 7 and applications with ease. Until the i3 or i5 series processors come in low voltages, I think this laptop is a great choice.
My only con was the build quality. The plastic case looks nice, but feels a bit thin. There is significant screen flex, and I fear that it wouldn't last long in a backpack with a student's books. The DVD drive also feels flimsy, like it might snap if too much weight was put on it. The laptop's slim size encourages it to be carried, but make sure you do so carefully.
Oh, and yes, the numeric pad is small, but I find it useful and easy to use (even with my meaty fingers).
